Influence of Network Characteristics on Application Performance in a Grid Environment

چکیده
With the availability of high-performance off-the-shelf computers and high-speed widearea networks, large-scale distributed computing environments are growing at an amazing speed. These environments enable massive computations to be performed using a large number of computers connected over WAN (Wide Area Networks). This form of distributed computing (grid computing) dynamically involves a number of heterogeneous computing resources (e.g., CPU, memory, storage, application program, data, and so on.) connected by heterogeneous network resources across geographically dispersed organizations[1][2]. The fundamental challenge for grid computing is to achieve a good performance from multiple distributed applications that share limited and heterogeneous computing and network resources (e.g., in terms of the completion time for each independent application and/or set of related applications). Large amounts of data are now being handled by distributed applications and the time required to transmit data is increasing, which has a significant effect on the performance of an application. Effective share of network resources is therefore critical. There is considerable work on traffic engineering to improve the utilization of network resources. To name a few, Elwalid et al. proposed a decentralized method to balance flows over multiple paths based on the traffic load of 3-5 On Influence of Network Characteristics on Application Performance in a Grid Environment

Abstract: Medial entorhinal cortex is known to be the hub of a brain system for navigation and spatial representation. These cells increase firing frequency at multiple regions in the environment, arranged in regular triangular grids. Each cell has some properties including spacing, orientation, and phase shift of the nodes of its grid. Entorhinal cortex is commonly perceived to be the major in...

In this paper, we study WSN design, as a multi-objective optimization problem using GA technique. We study the effects of GA parameters including population size, selection and crossover method and mutation probability on the design. Choosing suitable parameters is a trade-off between different network criteria and characteristics. Type of deployment, effect of network size, radio communication...

Establishing a network of transit routes with satisfactory demand coverage is one of the main goals of transitagencies in moving towards a sustainable urban development. A primary concern in obtaining such anetwork is reducing operational costs. This paper deals with the problem of minimizing construction costsin a grid transportation network while satisfying a certain level o...
متن کاملApplication of the Min-Projection and the Model Predictive Strategies for Current Control of Three-Phase Grid-Connected Converters: a Comparative Study
This paper provides a detailed comparative study concerning the performance of min-projection strategy (MPS) and model predictive control (MPC) systems to control the three-phase grid connected converters. To do so, first, the converter is modeled as a switched linear system. Then, the feasibility of the MPS technique is investigated and its stability criterion is derived as a lower limit on th...
متن کاملElectrical Energy Storage on the Hybrid Grid of Renewable Energy System Using Fuzzy Controller Optimization Algorithm
The main risks of arising from the using fossil fuels can be referred to environmental pollution, the effects of greenhouse gases, climate change and acid rain. For this reason, efficient use of energy in economic development has always been considered as an important goal of sustainable development. In this study, the effects of time-varying electricity prices in the energy storage components ...
